Are you a Disney fan who loves the frozen Disneyland Dole Whips you can get at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resort locations? Now you can make Dole Whips right at home with this easy snack recipe on a hot summer day!
The Pineapple Dole Whips are a quintessential Disney snack and one of our favorite treats at Disneyland. We LOVE Disneyland, and all their amazing food, which is why we make so many Disney resort copycat recipes.
Sometimes the line for the Dole Whips is longer than some of the lines for rides because it is the perfect treat on a hot day! If you are feeling the need for the famous pineapple treat without having to go to Downtown Disney, you can make this new Dole Whip recipe at home.
Recipe Ingredients Notes
To make our copycat version of Disneyland Dole Whips, you need the following ingredients:
- Pineapple: get a bag of frozen pineapple chunks for the Dole Whip treats texture to be perfect
- Ice cream: uses plain vanilla ice cream from the freezer aisle to mix for the original flavor
- Juice: you will need to use a combination of fresh lime, lemon juice, and pineapple juice

For this recipe, you only need a few simple kitchen tools. We recommend using the following equipment:
How to Make Dole Whips
- Puree frozen pineapple in a blender. It works best if it is partially thawed. To that, add the ice cream, lime juice, lemon juice, and half (only 6 ounces) of the pineapple juice.
- Blend together until it is well mixed.
- Freeze the mixture for about 2 hours to set up.
- Scoop into glasses or bowls and pour the remaining pineapple juice over each serving.
- We found it made about 3 servings, but you can easily double or cut the recipe in half.
Recipe Notes
- When you want to have a Dole Whip day at home, make sure to use the Dole Whip float the same day.
- Flavor Notes: To be sure you get the classic pineapple Dole Whip flavor, use ice cream with a vanilla flavor. But you can change it to another fruit flavor if you want to experiment.
- Storage Suggestion: Freezing the classic Dole Whip in an airtight container and not waiting more than 24 hours to eat it.
Frequently Asked Questions
For this recipe, we recommend serving it as soon as you make it or serving it after it set up for 2 hours, especially where it is so quickly thrown together and only takes a few minutes to make. You could make it ahead of time, but it will not be as creamy. If you plan to make it ahead of time, we recommend freezing it in an airtight container and not waiting more than 24 hours to eat it. We also recommend serving it as a float with soft-serve ice cream, if you are making and serving the next day. But again, this is recommended to serve fresh and quickly after blending.
For the best result, you will want to use frozen pineapple, or the pineapple float will be too liquidy and not like you would get at the Disney parks. Just pop the fresh pineapple in the freezer for a few hours and you are good to go!

They have them at Disney World. We had them last Nov 2013. I think it was at MK close to Swiss Family tree. They were wonderful!
Yes, just as someone else posted, they are at the Magic Kingdom very near the Swiss Family Tree house, and right next door to where you meet Tinkerbell. It is called Aloha Isle. You can also get the orange flavor whip, or even a Dole Whip float (the whip plus pineapple juice). Very tasty and refreshing on a hot afternoon!
This recipe sounds delicious, but one of the reasons I am so in love with Dole Whips is because they are dairy free! All of the mock-up recipes use milk products…just wondering how they are actually made?
I have tried several recipes. Can’t find one like the real thing. 🙁 After lots of searching, the thing I found is, from my understanding, it is a mix that they order.
hmm?since the mix is made with coconut oil, maybe if you made coconut milk ice cream and used that instead of dairy? I might have to try it?.then of course I’d have to go to Disney to compare, for research purposes, of course! 😀

I’ve seen a version on Pinterest that used almond milk and agave. Try to hunt that one down. It was tasty!
They make it in Hawaii (as you might expect) at the Dole plant on Oahu, the malls and at the airport. I looked like all they were using was pineapple, but who knows? It was the best thing I’ve ever eaten on a hot day.
I’ve had Dole Whip on Oahu and at Disneyland. Definitely favor the flavor on the island. The closest I’ve come to re-creating the experience is to add 1/2 of a fresh pineapple and a 1/3 to 1/2 of a half gallon of pineapple sherbet in a blender topped off with ice. Blend and voila! BTW since you’re blending, it’s ok to leave the core on the pineapple! It’s the sweetest part 😉
I found a recipe that uses whipped topping instead. Like cool whip. This will make it dairy free!
The recipe calls for ice cream? How, then, is this dairy free? Did see someone’s suggestion to use whipped topping, like Cool Whip.????

I’ve made something similar, using 2 – 4 * frozen bananas as a substitute for the ice cream. (Cut the bananas in chunks first and freeze in a Ziploc bag.)
This makes the recipe sugar-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and Paleo-friendly. 🙂

they are over in the Dole stand close to the pirates of the caribiean across and up from the river boat ride
1 whole pineapple ? cut up and frozen overnight
1 cup of coconut milk (or milk of choice)
Directions:
Place frozen chunks of pineapple and coconut milk into a food processor or high powered blender.
Turn on food processor and blend until the consistency becomes creamy. You may have to stop several times and scoop down the pineapple.
Makes about 3-4 servings.

Real Dole Whips are dairy free. They do not use ice cream.
But ALL of the sites that link to your recipe claim it’s for a “dairy-free” version, which is why people looking for, well, the “dairy-free” version are so confused…
We know this is not dairy free with the vanilla ice cream in the ingredients. We have never claimed that it’s dairy free. Not sure why other sites are saying that it is. We do know that it’s super good and refreshing!! 🙂

From those that live in northern Utah, if you can’t make it to Disneyland or Oahu, they now serve Dole Whip at Lagoon. We buy season passes since we live close and we like to take the kiddos during less crowded days and times. We discovered the Dole Whip “shack” last year and when we received our generous portions of creamy pineapple goodness, our tummies were delighted! Making it at home is obviously awesome and cheaper but it’s always good to have a backup plan. ;o)

Did you know that you can have the real dole whip if you rent an ice cream machine? My wife’s business rents the machines and sells the real pineapple dole whip mixes.
The Dole Whips can be found at the Tiki Room entrance in Disneyland! You can enjoy one while you’re waiting to go into the Tiki Room! 😉
I love this delicious treat! Someone me a great recipe that mimics this one almost perfectly, and is dairy free! Mix pineapple sherbert with 100% pineapple juice and you get an amazing smoothie!
They sell them in both Disney resorts.
You can also get them at the Polynesian Resort in Disney World. For some reason they taste better than the ones sold in Magic Kingdom.

I am unable to find the recipe for the, Dole Whip Float. It looks like it is made with Orange juice, etc. If you could kindly let me know where I can find the recipe, I would be so grateful. I got the, Disneyland Dole Whip recipe, but there is a picture of the float and it is orange in color and the Dole Whip is yellow. So I know they are two different recipes. I met my wife working at Aloha Isle at Walt Disney World almost 20 years ago. The Dole Whip is a powdered base mixed with water and chilled in a soft serve machine.
Hi Christy, I’m not sure about Florida, but the Dole Whip is in Disneyland next to the Tiki Room. Its a cute anamatronic show featuring beautiful birds! Always a hightlight of our trips to Disneyland. 🙂

You can however it won’t have the same frosty texture. It will taste yummy though!
